McCabe Wonder Goal Sinks Reds A Shane McCabe wonder goal and a Colin Nixon penalty heaped more pressure on Cliftonville boss Eddie Patterson as his miss-firing Cliftonville side seccumbed 0-2 to Glentoran at Solitude on Monday evening in front of the Sky camera's. Glentoran's opener came against the run of play but McCabe's strike with the outside of his right boot from 22 yards was worth the admission money alone. The game was played in atrocious conditions and on a pitch that in areas resembled a ploughed field, serious remedial work on the Solitude pitch must be a priority for the Reds who's free flowing football is being severely hampered by the conditions under foot.

New Deals For Strikers Gary Hamilton and Daryl Fordyce have signed contract extensions which will keep the Hamilton at the Oval until 2012 and and Fordyce untill 2011. Speculation had been mounting that Hamilton would join up with Glenavon in a deal which would have made him the top earner in the Irish League. |

Glentoran 2-1 Coleraine Glentoran had to come from behind to secure the points against highflying Coleraine at the Oval, the game was turned on its head with the introduction of Glentoran talisman Gary Hamilton. Gareth Harkin had put Coleraine ahead on 47 minutes after Elliott Morris had superbly saved Richard Gibson's header but great work from Hamilton set Halliday up for the equaliser and Hamilton was instrumental in setting up David Scullion for Glentoran’s winner. |
Glentoran 6-1 Ballymena United Co Antrim Shield Quarter Final Glentoran strolled past Ballymena United to book a place in the semi-final of the Country Antrim Shield. United were outplayed all over the pitch and fell behind after only two minutes when Michael Halliday found the back of the net, Grant Gardiner scored with a long range effort after 15 minutes to make it 2-0. Darren Boyce added the 3rd in the 25th minute and Halliday, Leeman and Boyce again added further goals in the second half. An own goal from Glentoran defender Philip Simpson was Ballymena's only reward on a night best forgotten by the Braid men. |
| Burrows Loan Move Complete
Glentoran striker Matty Burrows has completed a loan move to Championship side Loughgall. The striker scored 57 goals for Dundela last season but has found his opportunities limited at Glentoran this term. Burrows will initially join the “Villagers” untill January with a view to gaining valuable first team experience. |
Glentoran 1-0 Bangor
Northern Ireland football finally entered the 21st century on the 9th September 2008 as Glentoran and Bangor met in the first official game to be played on a Sunday in over 60 years. A bumper crowd made their way into the Oval past a small protest to witness history being made. The game itself may not last in the memory as long as the occasion but both managers will ultimately be satisfied with the outcome. Premiership new boys Bangor may have left the Oval pointless but Marty Quinn’s team proved that they are worthy of a place at the top table of local football with a spirited display. Glentoran 2-1 Cliftonville COLIN Nixon was the hero for Glentoran with his stoppage time winner earning ten-man Glentoran the points against Cliftonville. Francis Murphy headed Cliftonville into the lead in the fifth minute and Murphy almost made it 2-0 on 14 minutes when he pounced onto a Paul Leeman clearance only to fire straight at 'Elliott Morris while, on 25 minutes, Chris Scannell hit the crossbar . Glentoran levelled through Gary Hamilton six minutes from half-time with a clinical finish into the roof of the net after Michael Halliday had knocked the ball down from the edge of the area. The game took a dramatic twist with 20 minutes remaining when Glentoran were reduced to ten men after Jamie McGovern was dismissed by referee Mark Courtney following an incident with Reds defender David McAlinden. Repalys showed the official had no choice. Then, in a dramatic finale, Nixon grabbed the winner for Glentoran four minutes into stoppage time when he brought the back from the byline to deliver a powerful shot beyond John Connolly into the bottom corner. |

| Lisburn Distillery v Glentoran - Preview AFTER two false starts for Glentoran the domestic season finally kicked off at The Oval with Alan McDonald side beating Newington YC in the first round of the Co Antrim Shield. An opening day hat-trick from Gary Hamilton, together with strikes from Michael Halliday, Darren Boyce and a Daryl Fordyce penalty was enough to secure a safe passage through to the quarter finals of the Shield, despite a late consolation goal for the visitors. Hamilton’s suspension was cleared by the IFA following last Saturday’s washout against Glenavon. Meanwhile Whites’ assistant manager Ronnie Cromie – in charge as Paul Kirk awaits the start of his four match ban - says his players can’t wait to get into action. “We will get started sometime so we will! Glentoran v Glenavon Following last Saturdays false start the new JJB Premiership opens this weekend in what promises to be one of the most open and exciting seasons in Irish League history. Glentoran will be missing Gary Hamilton for Saturdays opener against Glenavon as the striker serves a one game suspension carried over from last season. Glenavon have recruited heavily under new head coach Stevie McBride with Tony Grant set to partner Trevor Molloy in a new look attack. |
