Ballymena United v Glenavon Preview

Two off the league newest managers go head to head at the Ballymena Showgrounds in what many see as a massive six pointer. Ballymena manager Roy Walker will be looking for a positive response from his players after the 6-1 mauling at Glentoran and Glenavon manager Stevie McBride goes in search off a first league point.

The Lurgan Blues have had a disjointed start to the season and McBride is hopeful that the team can finally get a chance to gel with a run of games. Missing for Glenavon will be Jay Magee (foot injury) and Gerard McMahon (hamstring)

Ballymena self-destructed is spectacular style against Glentoran and Roy Walker will be looking for leadership from his key players. The United manager is equally as frustrated as the United supporters with recent displays which he described as ridiculous

Coleraine 3-2 Glenavon

Ex Glenavon striker Richard Gibson was the hero for Coleraine with a hat-trick to fire them into third spot in the table.

Gibson put Coleraine into the lead after just two minutes when the Glenavon defence failed to clear the loose ball following a Darren Cassidy shot.

And he added  second on 35 minutes with a good finish after Marty Hunter beat two defenders before laying the ball off for Gibson to double Coleraines tally.

ButGlenavon were handed a glimmer of hope a minute from the break when Trevor Molloy pulled one back after his seemingly harmless effort took a deflection off defender Kyle McVey and into the net.

However Gibson effectively settled the tie on 66 minutes with a successfully converted spot-kick - awarded when he was fouled by Glenavon captain Hugh Dickson'

Tony Grant pulled another one back two minutes from time when he headed home from substitute Adrian Harper's cross but it was too little, too late and Glenavon still search for a first league point..

Bangor manager Marty Quinn was in an upbeat mood after ex Glenavon star Mary Verner had toe poked past Robert Robinson in the 86th minute to secure all three points, but he was quick to point out that its still early days despite the Seasiders impressive start. Glenavon manager Stevie McBride was left pondering how his team had managed to loose a game they dominated for long spells and was quick to praise young Bangor goalkeeper Andrew Plummer who pulled off a number of impressive saves to deny the Glenavon forwards.

FORMER Crues striker Davy Larmour is not expected to feature in Saturday’s clash for new side Glenavon.

Larmour signed a short-term deal with the Lurgan Blues, which will see him, battle to get fit until Christmas and fight for a place in the first team.

Glenavon did manage to get 13 minutes of their game against league runners up Glentoran finished at the Oval – but Stevie McBride’s side were called off the pitch due to the heavy rain which washed out much of the Irish League last week.

“I’ve never witnessed anything like this for the start of any season,” said Blues boss Stevie McBride.
“We’re probably in the same boat as everybody else. We’re all frustrated and all we can do is get back into training and start getting ready for next week.
“If the rain had stopped on Saturday after the warm-up it would have been playable but then as we kicked off it became torrential. It was another frustrating, miserable day. The referee had to give the game a chance and he did that but it was obvious it had to be called off.”

The Crues look like one of the League’s stronger sides, bringing in the likes of Mark Dickson (Linfield), Gareth McKeown (Portadown), Martin Donnelly (Sheffield United) and Aaron Black (Larne),

Glenavon Chairman Critical of ’self-interests’ outside Senior Game

"In an age when Senior clubs like ours are being licensed to ensure their compliance with best practice and business standards, I think it is absolutely essential that the product that is the Premiership is professionally promoted and administered. It is very much the view of the Board of Directors of this Glenavon Football Club that it must be freed from the self-interests outside the senior game which are currently divisive influences."
