PLATT: 'EARLY DAYS YET' Davy Platt gives his opinions of the 3-1 win over Bangor, the return of Marty Quinn to face his old club and Coleraine’s climb to the top of the JJB Sports Premiership.
“We want to get points and build up momentum, talking to the players on Thursday night there are a couple of things that are gone now; we didn’t like the yellow strip, we thought that was a bad omen against ‘Stute and that was put to bed on Tuesday night, we hadn’t won on the road, that was also put to bed on Tuesday and today was all about getting back to back wins and we’ve done that.”
“It was a big boost for us that Gibbo came through a fitness test and again he showed that he has a bit of quality about him as well as being able to handle himself well on the pitch, he helped Carsie and they seem to be playing well together. “

Coleraine v Bangor Preview Fresh from a 3-0 win at Newry on Tuesday night, Coleraine boss Davy Platt is set to face former colleague Marty Quinn with his new Bangor side in this Saturdays JJB Premiership encounter:
"Marty Quinn will return to the Showgrounds with Bangor Football Club, but I wouldn't get to caught up with the fact that Marty is back - yes he has been with the club for a long time, but at the end of the day it's about Coleraine v Bangor. It will be a difficult game for us, which is made even more difficult with the start they have made to the League so far. They went to Glenavon and got a 1-0 victory, then they had a creditable 1-0 defeat at the hands Glentoran on Sunday past to mention a few previous results."

Platt Reflects “Well we were disappointed with the final score yesterday and with the performance in the first fifteen or twenty minutes of the match as well, but you have to give Crusaders a lot of credit for the way they started and we were probably quite fortunate to go in only one down at half time.
Obviously we addressed a few issues at half time and we came out and played a lot better in the second half and probably should have won the game quite convincingly. But we missed a penalty and one or two other gilt-edged chances and of course there was a penalty that wasn’t given the last few minutes which could have allowed us to salvage a point.
But it’s a tough place to go, Crusaders normally is and I’m trying to take the positives out of the game, we played particularly well without coming away with anything.
Now Davy's attentions turn to Tuesday night's match against Newry City
It’ll be a difficult game on Tuesday, but its one we’re looking forward to. We have a couple of injury concerns after Saturday, so it’ll be a matter of taking a head count on Monday and seeing who we have available. We are without Tony Shields, John Watt and Ryan McLaughlin and Davy Patton has picked up a hamstring strain and obviously Howard Beverland is on International duty with the Northern Ireland Under-19 squad and Darren Cassidy is looking doubtful at this stage. |
Crusaders 2-1 Coleraine A goal from Jordan Owen's in the 77th minute proved decisive as Crusaders remain top of the JJB Sports Premiership. Mark Dickson opened the scoring for Crusaders in the 5th minute but Tommy McCallion levelled for Coleraine early in the second half. And the visitors missed a second half penalty, which proved to be a pivotal point in the game as Owens headed the winner to extend Crusaders lead at the top of the table. |
Coleraine 3-2 Glenavon Ex Glenavon striker Richard Gibson was the hero for Coleraine with a hat-trick to fire them into third spot in the table. Gibson put Coleraine into the lead after just two minutes when the Glenavon defence failed to clear the loose ball following a Darren Cassidy shot. And he added second on 35 minutes with a good finish after Marty Hunter beat two defenders before laying the ball off for Gibson to double Coleraines tally. ButGlenavon were handed a glimmer of hope a minute from the break when Trevor Molloy pulled one back after his seemingly harmless effort took a deflection off defender Kyle McVey and into the net. However Gibson effectively settled the tie on 66 minutes with a successfully converted spot-kick - awarded when he was fouled by Glenavon captain Hugh Dickson' Tony Grant pulled another one back two minutes from time when he headed home from substitute Adrian Harper's cross but it was too little, too late and Glenavon still search for a first league point.. |
Institute 2-1 Coleraine Institute took the spoils in a hard fought northwest derby at the Riverside Stadium; Neil Harkin had given the home side a deserved lead in the 28th minute and Coleraine’s misery was compounded when Jody Tolan was dismissed after picking up two yellow cards in as many minutes with ten minutes of the first half remaining. David Ogilby double the home sides advantage early in the second half but Coleraine fought back and Richard Gibson reduced the deficit in the 80th minute. Institute held their nerve over the closing stages and picked up a valuable three points. |
Coleraine 1-0 Dungannon Swifts David Platt had the perfect start to his tenure as Coleraine manager with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts. Davy Patton fired the Bannsiders into the lead after just 72 seconds with a left-foot effort after collecting a through ball out of defence from John Neill and that proved to be the winning strike. |
| Coleraine v Dungannon Swifts - Preview COLERAINE boss Davy Platt will be hoping his side manage to play all 90 minutes following the abandonment of his side’s game with Newry last Saturday. "Pre-season friendlies are a decent indicator of how things are going to go. Obviously the real test is on Saturday, and certainly in my eyes, the squad are looking a lot fresher, fitter, and stronger in mind and body, so I am definitely looking forward to 3.00pm on Saturday," he said. Saturday will give Platt a chance to see Coleraine's new signings in action, along with youngster Kevin O'Neill who has been called into the squad. Meanwhile Swifts boss Harry Fay can be expected to give a run out to some of his new signings during the match at the Showgrounds, including Marc McCann, signed from Portadown. "Marc only became a Dungannon player (last) Friday and I took advantage of the postponement to take a look at him. He played 90 minutes and scored with Mark McAllister making his return from injury with a good half hour with the second string,” he told the Tyrone Times. "As well as that, Jamie Tomelty wasn't available for the match at Crusaders as he was in Cyprus for a wedding, the strike means that we don't lose him for any games" added Fay. However they have lost the services of Gary Fitzpatrick who has signed for Bangor, who had trained with Dungannon since completing his one year contract with Armagh City. |
Newry City v Coleraine Preview Following last Saturdays false start the new JJB Premiership opens this weekend in what promises to be one of the most open and exciting seasons in Irish League history. The Showgrounds in the venue for Newry City's opening fixture against Coleraine and both teams have strengthened over the summer with City adding Paul Murphy (Ballymena Utd) and Ross Black (Larne) and Coleraine adding Paul Murphy (Ballymena Utd) and defender Ross Black (Larne). |
